Ball Valves
Ball valves take a leading role in valve industry as the scope of application is enormous. The quarter turn valve control makes it easy to operate and require almost no maintenance. It allows maximum flow capacity with minimum pressure drop. Low pressure ball valves are mainly used for critical applications with demanding requirements. They are highly used for the smooth working of water, oil and gas systems.
There are three different types of ball valve, 1 piece, 2 piece and 3 piece ball valve. A low pressure ball valve can be divided into a full bore ball valve and reduced bore ball valve based on the of flow of passage formed.

What are low pressure ball valves
1. What is a low pressure ball valve used for?
A ball valve is defined as a shut-off valve that controls the flow of a liquid or gas. There are two types of ball valves which are low pressure ball valve and high pressure ball valve. Different industries use different valves depending on their working pressure requirement. Low Pressure ball valves are widely leveraged for water, general oil and gas applications.
2. What are the types of ball valves?
1 piece ball valve is always a reduced bore, whereas 2 piece ball valve is commonly known as the standard bore (full bore). A full bore ball valve has an over-sized ball which makes the size of the hole in the ball the same as the pipeline applications. On the other hand, reduced ball valves are valves with the opening of the closing part to control flow, of which flow area is less than of the inner diameter of the pipeline. This type of ball valve is generally used in switches and circuit for general hydraulic applications. The low pressure ball valves are customizable and can be easily used alongside other tools.

4. How do you measure a ball valve?
Low pressure ball valves are usually found in the sizes ranging from 1/4" to 4”. Different applications demand low pressure ball valves of different sizes. Low pressure ball valve is made up of carbon steel, stainless steel, and brass material. The standard material application of low pressure ball valve is stainless steel SS316 as it has high corrosion resistance.
Low pressure ball valves can seamlessly withstand working pressure ranging up to 2000 PSI and are mainly used in the conditions with a temperature ranging from -29°C to 150°C. The graph below show that environment temperature will affect the working pressure.

5. What is the proper way to install a ball valve?
The installation plays a key role in the functioning of low pressure ball valves, as improper installation may damage the valve and lead to the malfunction of the fluid control systems.
Step 1: Before installing a low pressure ball valve, clean and remove all kinds of objects from the pipes.
Step 2: Make sure that the connecting pipes on both sides of the valve are properly aligned.
Step 3: Ensure that both sections of the pipe match, as the low pressure ball valve unit cannot absorb any gaps. Any kind of distortion in pipes can impact the tightness of the connection, the functioning of the valve and can even result to a rupture.
Step 4: In case the sections of piping do nott have proper support in place, they should be temporarily fixed to avoid unnecessary strain on the low pressure ball valve.
Step 5: Apply thread sealant when making up connections.
Step 6: Double check the tightness of connection to ensure high performance of valve.
