Single Plate Check Valve

​Single plate check valve is well known as wafer check valve, single disk check valve or swing check valve. Single plate check valve is designed for return flow prevention in pipeline installation. They are constructed to be mounted directly between flanges according to DIN, JIS or ANSI standards.

This valve is suitable for industrial employment in pipeline installation for transport of liquids and gaseous fluids. It would block fluids on one side of the pipe within allowable temperature and working pressure limits. They are not suitable to apply for medium with solid particles. ​

What are single plate check valve

​1. What is single plate check valve?
The valve has a solid body with a thin plate profile in the middle that enables it to be set between a set of flanges. It is made according to standards of  ASME B16.34. Flanges are designed to connect pipes, valves, and various piping equipment for the purpose of piping system creation. 

​The single plate check valve is holding in a central position by the flange connection screws. The number of screws for each installation depends on the valve size. An O-ring seal is used to protect the valves from external effects. Single plate check valve operates under low pressure. The size is available from 1 1/2” to 6”. The valve helps to provide a quick access in cleaning and maintenance job.

2. What is difference between dual plate type and single plate check valve?
​

Check valves are designed in different types in order to fit to different system applications. Dual plate type and single plate check valve are the most common check valves that have been applied in system design. Both valves have the same purpose to prevent backflow of the system.

3. Why do you need a single plate check valve?

The benefits of using single plate check valve are as below:
  1. Operate effectively in both horizontal and vertical pipelines.
  2. Soft seated valves come in two variants of O-ring material, Viton and NBR seated. 
  3. Long life usage and trouble-free operation.
  4. Easier to handle and install. 
  5. Light series of check valve.
​4. The advantages of using dual plate check valve ​

  • More compact and structurally sound design. 
  • Low pressure drop and reduced the energy loss irrespective of valve pressure ratings. 
  • Inherently non-slamming. 
  • Streamlined flow-way. 
  • Long life and trouble-free valve operation.
  • Efficient and positive sealing under pressurized condition. Valve closes before flow reversal at zero velocity.
5. Can you install a check valve horizontally? ​

​To create the best flow outcome of the check valve, it is important to adhere the best installation practices. A simple mistake would lead to reduce in efficiency at its best performance or cause substantial damage of other equipment in the system. Some key points of installation instruction shall be bared in mind as below:

  • Check the valve surface and O-ring material and ensure no contamination before installation. 
  • Ensure check valve being installed meets the operational requirement such as pressure category, chemical resistance, pipe dimensions and connection. 
  • To install of at least 5x nominal diameter of straight line in front and back of the swing check valve. 
  • Exit supports allow a greater opening angle and higher throughput the check valves.
  • Valves do not install directly onto a pump flange. 
  • Avoid pulsation and pressure impact. 
  • Vertical throughput is allowable if the valve can open at the top of the system. 
  • Ring screw must be at the top for horizontal throughput.
  • The swing check valve is placed between two flanges with ring screws. It is installed in its central position according to the outer diameter of the case and flange screws inner side.
  • Refer to the torque value when tightening the flange screws. 
  • Check the tightness of the connection via pressure check after installation is completed.
