What are Needle Valves
1. What is a needle valve used for?
It is a manual valve to start, stop and regulate the flow rate within a piping flow. The unique design of needle valves is able to control how much fluid passes through the valve precisely.
Seat and needle are designed to be exactly fit to one another, with that there will be no gap for fluid to escape when the needle is put into place. The seat is the space where the needle enters the channel through. |
2. Can a needle valve regulate pressure?
Needle valve operates when the handle is turned on, the stem is rotating and lifts up the needle from the seat. It allows the fluid to flow through the seat. The needle position decides the flow rate. The real change in needle depth for every turn is extremely minimal. This allows for maximum accuracy, as the needle raises or lower by the tiniest of degrees.

The working pressures of needle valve are from 5000 to 10,000 PSI. Needle valve working pressure changes according to the temperature. High temperature reduces working pressure, and the other way round, lower temperature increases working pressure.
Stainless steel SS316 and carbon steel are the most commonly used material for the needle valves. Needle valves are made up of stainless steel as this material is resistant to most forms of corrosion, chemical damage and rust and will last for years. No replacement needed and low valve maintenance required. |
