SAE Flange End Ball Valves
2-way ball valves with SAE flange connection are designed for use as on off devices in hydraulic application. It is used for pressure and flow control in the oil and gas industry. Ball valves come with various types connection such as threaded and welding end, as both are the most common connection type in system application.
The ball valves have three different body designs which are BKH, MKH and KH. The valves are quarter turn designed to control the flow rate passing through the system. For ball valve with SAE flange as its end connection, the working pressure is available in 210 Bar and 420 Bar.

What are 2-way ball valves with SAE flange connection
1. What is 2-way ball valve with SAE flange connection?
Flange end valve is the easiest connection to install and uninstall from a pipeline. As these are secured to the pipe flanges with several bolts, the process of assembly and disassembly is quick and easy. Ball valve with SAE flange are made in two series, SAE 3000 (ISO 6162-1) and SAE 6000 (ISO 6162-2). |
2. What material is a SAE flange end ball valve made of?
SAE flange end ball valve is mainly made of stainless steel SS316 and carbon steel material. To identify each part of ball valve, there is a material combination code which is broken down for users to customize the valve design according to the project application. Please refer to the common material combination for stainless steel and carbon steel ball valve below: |

3. What are the types of SAE flange end ball valves?
The standard valve comes in 3 different valve body design. There are BKH, MKH and latest design KH. BKH and MKH valves design has extended male thread from the ball valve where SAE adaptors are connected on both ends and causing the valve length to be longer than the standard valve design. The SAE adapter has metric thread and UNC thread options.
While KH valve is a new innovative design from MHA-Zentgraf. It is a full port valve body and the body and adapter assembly is in single piece that reduces the point of assembly to ensures 100% tightness. It allows SAE flange to attach on the end adapter for assembly. The KH valves length is shorter compare to BKH and MKH.

4. How does a SAE flange end ball valve work?
The SAE flange end ball valve adaptor comes with flat side flange. A SAE flange O-ring side is required to connect with it and allow fluid to flow through. A set of 4 pieces allan cap screw and washers is used to tighten up both the flat and O-ring side flanges together. To install a complete SAE flange end ball valve to pipeline in a system, there are 5 complete parts required as below:

Flow rate plays a part when designing the valve during system installation. Valve Coefficient (Cv) is the full capacity flow rate through the valve in US gallons/min of water at 15°C (60°F) with a pressure drop of 1 PSI. |
Flow Coefficient (Kv) is a volumetric flow rate of water at a temperature between 5°C (40°F) and 40°C (104°F) passing through a valve and resulting in a pressure loss of 0.1 MPa (1 bar; 14.5 PSI). Therefore, the formula is Kv = Cv/1.156. With the accuracy flow rate calculation, it would help to increase system efficiency.
